Following are 234 Catholic priests who served in the 10 largest U.S. dioceses who have been accused of sexual abuse of a minor. In many cases, innocence or guilt has not been determined. Several retired or died before allegations were brought. Many have been removed from ministry, either temporarily or permanently, or placed on leave following an accusation. Every person on this list has been confirmed by the diocese where he served as someone who was accused. The exception is Boston, which declined to assist. In that case, confirmation came through archdiocese press releases, published victim accounts, victims' attorneys and public records. Religious order priests are indicated by an asterisk (*). Responsibility for their disposition rests with their orders.

Archdiocese of Boston

Robert Barrett: Sued over allegations of abuse of boy in late 1960s; settled in 2000. Laicized.

Robert P. Beale: Suspended in July after allegation of sex abuse more than 25 years ago.

George C. Berthold: Dean of seminary fired for allegedly kissing student in 1995. Removed from ministry.

Joseph E. Birmingham: Allegedly abused 40 victims at various parishes from 1960s to 1980s; died in 1989.

Paul J. Bolduc: Placed on leave in August after allegation of abuse more than 30 years ago.

Ronald L. Bourgault: Placed on leave in June after allegation of abuse more than 30 years ago.

Richard A. Buntel: Accused of abusing teen boy in 1970s and 1980s. Temporarily removed from ministry in February.

Robert M. Burns: Pleaded guilty in 1996 to molesting boy in New Hampshire; served three years and released on parole. Laicized in 1996.

William L. Butler: Placed on leave in August over allegation of abuse in 1966.

John M. Cotter: Priest who died in 1989 alleged to have abused boy in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Church settled lawsuit in 1995.

Charles G. Coyle*: Jesuit priest accused in April of abusing teen boy in 1970s. Removed from ministry in Louisiana in April.

William J. Cummings: Lawsuit alleges he molested boy in 1982. Died in 1994.

Thomas M. Curran: Placed on leave in August after allegation of abuse more than 25 years ago.

Thomas F. Dempsey: Pleaded guilty in 1997 to abuse charge stemming from incidents in La Crosse, Wis. Died in 1998. Now named in lawsuit alleging Boston archdiocese covered up abuse.

Paul M. Desilets*: Clerics of St. Viator priest charged with molesting 18 boys in 1970s and 1980s. In Quebec; extradition proceedings underway.

Paul J. Finegan: Removed from ministry in February over abuse allegations.

Thomas P. Forry: Placed on leave in February after allegation of abuse.

Michael Smith Foster: Suspended in August following allegations of abuse in 1980s; briefly reinstated, then placed on leave in September.

Robert V. Gale: Placed on leave in August after charges he raped boy in 1980s.

John J. Geoghan: Laicized in 1998. Convicted in February of indecent assault; faces two criminal trials and about 90 civil suits. Now in prison.

Daniel M. Graham: Abuse allegations surfaced in 1980s and 1990s. Suspended in February.

Frederick L. Guthrie: Retired priest placed on leave in 2001 after allegedly soliciting teen boy for sex.

John R. Hanlon: Convicted in 1994 of rape and assault with intent to rape. Serving three life sentences.

Gerald J. Hickey: Placed on leave in February after minor abuse allegation.

Paul W. Hurley: Charged with raping teen boy 15 years ago. Placed on leave in August. Denies allegations.

Kelvin E. Iguabita: Removed from ministry in January; pleaded innocent to rape and assault charges.

Roger N. Jacques: Placed on leave in October after allegation of abuse in 1980s.

Edward T. Kelley: Defendant in several lawsuits alleging abuse from 1960s to 1980s. On sick leave since 1993.

Joseph W. Kenney: Named in lawsuit filed in September alleging Boston archdiocese covered up abusive priests. Died in 1992.

Bernard J. Lane: Priest accused of abusing eight teenage boys also ran home for youths. Retired in 1999; lawsuit pending.

Victor LaVoie: Placed on leave in July after allegation of abuse 20 years ago.

John P. Lyons: Placed on leave in May. Pleaded innocent in October to charge of raping boy in 1980s. Awaiting trial.

Paul J. Mahan: Alleged to have molested 13 children, including two nephews. Laicized in 1997.

Richard O. Matte: Lawsuits in 1990s alleged abuse of seven boys, including one rape; cases settled. Removed from ministry in 1993.

George V. McCabe*: Lawsuit filed in April alleges Jesuit priest abused three boys in early 1970s. Died in 1998.

Edward C. McDonagh: Placed on leave in May after allegation of abuse of minor.

Paul E. McDonald: Allegedly abused boy in 1960s. No longer a priest.

Humberto Medeiros*: Cardinal accused in March of abuse. Died in 1983.

William H. Morgan: Allegedly molested three children. Died in 1999.

Paul Moriarty: Named in lawsuit filed in September alleging Boston archdiocese covered up abusive priests. Deceased.

Jay M. Mullin: Named in 1992 civil suit for allegedly abusing boy in 1971. Settled suit, denied charges. Removed from ministry in 2001.

David C. Murphy: Facing multiple abuse allegations. Placed on leave in February.

W. James Nyhan: Placed on leave in June after allegation he molested boy in 1970s.

Eugene O'Sullivan: Pleaded guilty in 1984 to molesting altar boy, 15. Also settled a case involving his nephew. Removed from ministry in 1992.

Ronald H. Paquin: Multiple cases of alleged abuse reported. Indicted in May on three counts of child rape. Removed from ministry, awaiting trial.

Leonard E. Pelletier: Placed on leave in September after allegations of abuse more than 20 years ago.

James F. Power: Placed on leave in February after allegation of sexual misconduct with a minor.

Anthony J. Rebeiro: Placed on leave in August after allegation of abuse in 1972.

George J. Rosenkranz: On sick leave since 1990; sued in 2000 and this year over abuse allegations in 1960s and 1970s.

Frederick J. Ryan: Placed on leave in March after allegedly molesting three boys more than 20 years ago.

Paul R. Shanley: Allegedly abused boys in 1970s and 1980s. Indicted in June on 10 counts of child rape and six counts of indecent assault and battery. Removed from ministry; awaiting trial.

D. George Spagnolia: Accused of sexually abusing boy in 1971. Denied allegation. Placed on leave in February; charges dropped in March.

Leonard Stanton: Named in lawsuit filed in September against Boston archdiocese alleging it covered up abuse. Deceased.

Andrzej Sujka*: Franciscan priest removed from ministry in 2001 after allegation that he molested boy.

C. Melvin Surette: After allegation of molestation in 1990s, he was given office job of reassigning other accused priests. Removed from ministry in 2000.

Patrick J. Tague: Named in lawsuit filed in September claiming Boston archdiocese covered up abusive priests. On leave.

Ernest E. Tourigney: Named in three civil suits for allegedly molesting four teen boys in 1960s and 1970s. Removed from ministry in 1993.

Robert Turnbull*: Augustinian priest accused of abusing boy in late 1970s and early 1980s; died in 2000.

Robert A. Ward: Placed on leave in February after allegation of abuse.

Joseph Welsh: Placed on leave in February after allegations he abused three brothers.

Paul David White: Sued in 1998 over claim of abuse in the 1960s. Archdiocese settled; was laicized. Now a teacher at Haverhill (Mass.) High School.

Diocese of Brooklyn

William Authenrieth: Named in suit against Brooklyn diocese alleging abuse; also accused while serving in Orlando diocese, which laicized him in the 1980s.

Edward Brennan: Lawsuit against Brooklyn diocese alleges priest, now deceased, abused 11-year-old girl.

Joseph P. Byrns: Accused in 1998 by two brothers, one now a priest, of molestation in late 1960s to early 1970s. Suspended in July.

Frank Capellupo: Charged with abuse of boy in 2000; placed on leave. Denied charges, which were later dropped, and case was sealed. Remains on leave.

James Collins: Lawsuit against Brooklyn diocese alleges he abused four boys in the 1970s and 1980s. Placed on leave in April.

Enrique Jimenez Diaz: Removed from ministry in 1991 and pleaded guilty to abuse charges. After six months in jail, received probation and was deported to Venezuela. Later charged with abuse there and in Colombia.

Anthony Failla: Removed from ministry in 2001 after allegation of molestation; now retired.

Romano Ferraro: Priest, placed on sick leave in the 1980s, arrested on rape and assault charges in Massachusetts in April and is awaiting trial. Also accused of abusing up to four victims in Boston and Brooklyn.

Francis Manzo: Named in lawsuit against Brooklyn diocese; allegedly abused altar boy in early 1990s. Placed on leave in 1995.

Edward L. Maurer: Lawsuit against Brooklyn diocese alleges he abused boy in the 1970s. Now retired.

John McLoughlin: Named in lawsuit brought against Brooklyn diocese, which says he has died. Allegation concerns sexual abuse of teen boy in 1974.

Francis X. Nelson: Visiting priest from India charged with sex abuse of a preteen girl in 1999 in Brooklyn. Arrested and removed from ministry in May.

Ronald P. Petroski: Put on leave in 1980 and removed from ministry in 1984 after lawsuit alleges he abused teen boy in 1975. Died, according to diocese.

Patrick Sexton: Accused of abusing three boys in the 1980s; on leave since 1990. Named in civil suit filed in 2001; denies accusations.

James Smith: Lawsuit against Brooklyn diocese alleges abuse of 26 boys and girls between 1960 and 1977. Placed on leave in April.

George Stack: Named in lawsuit against Brooklyn diocese, the now-retired priest is accused of abusing boy in 1976.

Vincent Zollo: Named in lawsuit against Brooklyn diocese, he allegedly abused a boy in the early 1980s. Later transferred to North Carolina and placed on leave in the 1990s.

Archdiocese of Chicago

Richard Bartz: Allegation of abuse of two boys in 1970s. Removed from ministry in June.

R. Peter Bowman: Retired priest removed from ministry in May over abuse allegation that was 45 years old.

Daniel Buck: Accused of abuse of a minor in 1980s. Temporarily removed from ministry in June.

John Calicott: Removed from ministry eight years ago after allegations of misconduct with two boys. Reinstated 18 months later. Removed from ministry again in June.

Bill Cloutier: Removed from ministry in 1993; admits abusing three victims.

Richard W. Fassbinder: Retired in 1997; removed from ministry in June over past allegation of sexual abuse of teen.

Daniel Holihan: Retired in 1992; removed from ministry in June over past allegation of abuse of boy.

Walter Huppenbauer: Allegation of abuse of girl in 1960s; removed from ministry in September.

Robert Kealy: Former chancellor removed from ministry in June over 25-year-old allegation of abuse of teen. Had resigned in March when allegation became public.

John Keehan: Allegation of abuse surfaced in 1990s, and he was monitored by archdiocese after that. Temporarily removed from ministry in June.

William Lupo: Removed from ministry in June amid allegations of sexual misconduct with three teen girls in 1980s. Denies accusations.

Norbert J. Maday: Removed from ministry in 1992. Convicted of sexual assault of two boys and sentenced in 1994 to 20 years in prison.

Robert Mayer: Sentenced in 1993 to three years in prison for abuse of 13-year-old girl.

Vincent McCaffrey: Removed from ministry in 1991 upon multiple allegations of sex abuse. Pleaded guilty in September to two counts of child pornography.

Donald Mulsoff: Removed from ministry in May after allegations arose of abuse of two minors more than 25 years ago. Chicago archdiocese had received an anonymous complaint in 1992 but did not investigate.

Carlos Peralta*: Salesian priest from South America allegedly abused four boys in Chicago in late 1990s, according to lawsuit. Priest now in Mexico.

Sleeva Raju Policetti: Removed from ministry in May. Fled to native India after police began investigating charges of sexual assault of teen girl in 2001 and 2002. Wanted by FBI.

James Ray: Accused in 1991 of abuse of boy. Temporarily removed from ministry in June.

Andrew Ronan*: Lawsuit accuses Servite Order priest of abusing victims in Ireland, Chicago and Portland. Laicized in 1966; died in 1992.

Raymond Skriba: Three accusations lodged of abuse against girls, two in 1960s. Denies allegations. Temporarily removed from ministry in July. Brother of Richard Skriba.

Richard Skriba: Died in March 1998; woman notified archdiocese of abuse claim against him in October 1998.

Marion Snieg: Removed from ministry in June over abuse allegations dating to 1950s. Had retired in 1992.

Ralph Strand: Removed from ministry in 1993 when accused of assaulting a teenage boy in 1990. Pleaded guilty in 1995; served prison term. Registered sex offender living near Chicago.

Thomas Swade: Removed from parish in 1992 after allegation he abused teen boy a decade earlier. Five others also accused him of misconduct. Temporarily removed from ministry in June.

Archdiocese of Detroit

Harry Benjamin: Charged in August with molesting teen boy in mid-1980s. Reportedly acknowledged misconduct; laicized in 1991.

Gary Berthiaume: Removed by Joliet diocese in April; spent six months in jail in 1978 for molesting two brothers in Detroit. Last living at Illinois retreat house.

Edmund Bor[yc]z: Five allegations of sexually abusing minors from 1963 to 1987. Denies charges. Placed on leave in June.

Gary Bueche: Alleged to have abused several boys in 1970s; archdiocese paid secret settlement to at least one victim. Removed from ministry in April.

Robert Burkholder: Allegedly had as many as 23 victims; removed from ministry in 1993. Pleaded no contest Nov. 1 to abuse charges and received 30-day jail sentence. Living in Hawaii.

Anthony J. Conti: Removed from ministry in May following allegations of sexual misconduct. Living in Detroit.

Michael Daly: Removed from ministry in June. Had been placed on leave in 1994 after abuse allegation but worked as a chaplain.

Dennis D. Duggan: Placed on leave in March following complaint of abuse.

Jude Ellinghausen: Accused of abusing boy in 1970s. Denies charge. Placed on leave in June.

Joseph Femminineo: Resigned from pastorate in 1992 after abuse allegations. Removed from ministry in June.

Robert Haener: Removed from ministry in June, accused of abusing boys while a school principal in 1960s. He most recently had been a hospice chaplain.

Tom Johnston*: Dominican priest removed from a church in 1999 after charge of sexual misconduct with teen boy.

Dennis Laesch: Placed on leave in May after allegation he abused teen boy. Denies accusation.

Walter Lezuchowski: Removed from ministry in May after allegations he had a 16-year sexual relationship with a girl that started when she was in first grade. Had been sent for treatment in 1991 and supervised since.

Dennis Martell: Laicized following abuse allegations.

Alfred Miller: Accused of sexual misconduct with minors in late 1960s or early 1970s. Placed on leave in July; denied allegations.

Lawrence Nawrocki: Sentenced to prison in 1989 after pleading no contest to charges he fondled three young boys. Released in 1994.

Edward Olszewski: Allegedly abused boy in Detroit in 1970s; had transferred to Miami archdiocese, where other allegations surfaced. Temporarily removed from ministry in March. Arraigned on sodomy and indecent-liberties charges in Detroit in September. Denies allegations.

Ralph Quane: Alleged abuse of a minor early in his ministry. Removed from ministry in June.

Gerald Shirilla: Removed from ministry in March following allegation he molested four brothers in 1960s and 1970s. He had previously been removed in 1993 but had resurfaced in another diocese. Also subject of a lawsuit over fifth victim.

Jason Sigler: Charged with four counts of criminal sexual misconduct with teen boy in 1960s and three counts for another case in 1975 while serving as a visiting priest in Detroit. Santa Fe archdiocese has settled civil cases naming Sigler. Laicized in 1983; married and living in Albuquerque.

Joseph Sito: Removed from ministry in April. Pleaded no contest to criminal sexual conduct charges in 1999; had resigned from another post in 1993 following abuse allegation.

Peter Van der Linden: Removed from ministry by archdiocese.

Gerald Vesnaugh: Removed from ministry; imprisoned in the 1980s.

Ron Williams: Accused of abuse of minor more than 15 years ago. Placed on leave in September.

Robert Wyzgoski: Allegations of abuse received earlier this year. Retired and placed on leave in June.

Archdiocese of Los Angeles

Nicolas Aguilar-Rivera: Fled to Mexico after arrest warrant issued in 1988 on 19 counts of child molestation.

Michael Stephen Baker: Accused of multiple counts of abuse from 1975 to 1999. Laicized in 2000. Arrested in September on 19 counts of child molestation; pleaded not guilty and freed on bail in October.

Honesto Bismonte: Pleaded innocent in June to charges of lewd conduct with two girls. Placed on leave in June. Free on bail.

Lynn Caffoe: On leave since 1991. Allegation of abuse in 1994.

John Dawson: Claims of molestation of three boys in 1970s and 1980s. Removed from ministry in 1995. Living in New Mexico.

Gerald B. Fessard: Pleaded no contest in 1980 to oral copulation of a minor; received probation. Pleaded no contest in 1987 to charges of soliciting and battery on a minor; received probation. Removed from ministry in February.

David Granadino: Placed on leave in March following allegation of abuse in 1980s. Denies accusation.

Vincent Hagenbach: Subject of 2002 lawsuit filed in Los Angeles alleging abuse of boy. Now deceased.

Richard Allen Henry: Received eight-year prison sentence for abuse of four brothers and removed from ministry in 1993. Released on parole in 1996, now lives in Maryland.

Stephen C. Hernandez: Retired in 1997. Placed on leave in April after teen boy raised abuse allegation.

Tilak Jayawardene: Los Angeles authorities seeking extradition from Sri Lanka of priest wanted on child-molestation charges in 1991. Was a visiting priest in Los Angeles archdiocese; allegedly abused teen boy.

Philip Kavanaugh: Placed on leave based on allegation he abused a teen 28 years ago.

Christopher Kearney*: Capuchin priest alleged to have molested several boys at Catholic high school. On leave since April.

Patrick Kelly*: Jesuit priest received three years' probation in 1992 after pleading no contest to charge of sexual battery against girl.

Jerold Lindner*: Jesuit was subject of lawsuit; removed from ministry in 2001.

Theodore Llanos: Charged with 38 counts of molestation in 1996; case dismissed because of statute of limitations. Committed suicide in 1997.

George Miller: Two people claim abuse during 1970s and 1980s. Removed from ministry in 1997. Grand jury investigating.

James F. O'Grady: Cleared of 1997 molestation claim. Now retired.

Carlos Rene Rodriguez*: Former Vincentian priest, laicized in 1993, charged in September with molesting four boys. Pleaded not guilty, denies accusations.

George Neville Rucker: Retired in 1987; removed from ministry in April. Charged in September with molesting seven girls between 1947 and 1979. In jail.

John Anthony Salazar-Jimenez*: Piarist priest, convicted in 1987 for child molestation, resumed ministry after treatment for abuse; transferred to Amarillo, Texas. Removed in June.

Juan Santillan*: Piarist priest accused in 1998 of molesting altar boy in 1970s. Denies allegations. Serving as a priest in Bolivia.

Dominic Savino*: Carmelite priest allegedly abused teen boys in 1970s. Removed from ministry in March.

Arulappan Savrianandam: Accused of abusing teen girl in 1996; believed to be in India.

Fidencio Silva*: Missionaries of the Holy Spirit priest investigated by police, named in civil suits charging abuse of eight boys from 1979 to 1985. Denied accusations; serving with religious order in Mexico.

Carl Sutphin: Accused of abusing four boys in 1960s and 1970s. Retired in February, removed from ministry in June.

Santiago Tamayo: Accused of sexually abusing woman 20 years ago. Moved to the Philippines and died in 1996.

Carl Tresler: Removed from ministry in 1998 after claim of abuse of teen boy. Now thought to be serving in Peru.

Christian Van Liefde: Placed on leave in June after archdiocese received allegation of inappropriate conduct with a minor 28 years ago.

Michael Wempe: Removed from ministry in April over abuse accusations in 1970s and 1980s. Received counseling, was reassigned as chaplain at Cedars Sinai hospital in 1988.

John Wishard: Charged in 1980 with oral copulation of a minor; pleaded no contest, received probation. Charge later dismissed. Retired in 1997, laicized in August.

G. Patrick Ziemann: Former bishop of Santa Rosa removed from ministry in 1999 after a priest filed sex abuse lawsuit. Suit filed in July alleges sex abuse of a minor while in Los Angeles in 1970s and 1980s.

Archdiocese of New York

John Albino: One of four priests accused of paying 16-year-old boy for sex. Suits settled in 2001. Removed from ministry.

Juan Bazalar: Peruvian priest who served in New York faced criminal sex abuse charges in 1990s. Was convicted; conviction later overturned.

Daniel A. Calabrese: Convicted in 1993 of sodomy with teenager, sentenced to 90 days jail and probation. Removed from ministry.

Anthony Joseph Eremito: Removed from ministry in 1992 after accusations of sex abuse. Also accused this year of abuse by a current priest.

John Gallant: Temporarily removed from ministry in April. Civil suit filed in June from woman claiming she had affair with priest beginning at age 16.

Gennaro Gentile: Accused in 1990s by several families of abuse. At least one civil suit settled. Removed from ministry in April.

Kenneth Jesselli: Removed from ministry in April following allegation of abuse.

Charles Kavanagh: Monsignor accused of abuse by former seminary student. Temporarily removed from ministry in May.

Jack Kennington*: Suit charging sex abuse against Redemptorist priest settled in 2001.

Morgan Kuhl: Caught in FBI sting in 1999 allegedly trying to arrange meeting with teen over Internet for sex. Removed from ministry in 1999. Arrested in September on separate abuse charge.

Ralph LaBelle: Allegations of inappropriate conduct in the 1990s. Temporarily removed from ministry in April.

John Lennon: Decade-old charge of abuse while serving at high school. Denies accusations. Temporarily removed from ministry in April.

Donald T. Malone: Removed in 1988 from position as principal of Catholic school after allegedly solicited teen for sex. Placed on leave in 1993.

Henry Mills: Named in 1998 civil suit; allegedly assaulted 17-year-old. Removed from ministry in March pending resolution of litigation.

Jorge P. Pintado: Visiting priest from Ecuador, on health leave from New York archdiocese since 2000, charged with abuse in September after allegedly fondling teen altar boy in Manhattan.

Edward Pipala: Allegedly abused as many as 50 boys and was convicted in 1993 of sodomy and sex abuse. Served 8 years in prison and was laicized.

Ruben Rodriguez*: One of four Carmelite priests accused of paying 16-year-old boy for sex. Lawsuits settled in 2001.

Esteban Rodriguez*: One of four Carmelite priests (no relation to Ruben) accused of paying 16-year-old boy for sex. Lawsuits settled in 2001.

Francis Stinner: Placed on leave in 1997 following allegations he'd abused boys 25 years ago in Orange County. Occasionally celebrated Mass until January, when he was removed from ministry.

James Tamburrino*: One of four Carmelite priests accused of paying 16-year-old boy for sex. Lawsuits settled in 2001. Removed from ministry. Arrested in September on charges of harassing man in upstate New York.

Joseph Theisen: Allegations of abuse began in 1987. Church settled with three victims in 1994. Sent for treatment in New Mexico; laicized in 1994.

William F. White: Monsignor named in 1997 civil suit alleging abuse of teen in 1970s; suit was settled. Removed from ministry in April.

Archdiocese of Newark

Michael G. Campanalonga: Removed from ministry in 1993 after two brothers alleged abuse from 1966 to 1974; case dismissed in July. Now living in Florida.

Robert Coakley*: Franciscan priest and Scoutmaster allegedly molested boy in 1970s. Died in 1988.

William Dowd: Placed on leave in April following allegation of abuse.

Edward Eilert: Placed on leave in June based on allegation he abused teen girl in 1980s.

Michael C. Fugee: Placed on leave in 2001; pleaded not guilty last December of sexual misconduct with boy. Awaiting trial.

William Giblin: Arrested in July in Montreal in male prostitution sting allegedly involving minors. Placed on leave; awaiting hearings.

Eugene Heyndricks: Arrested in July in Montreal in male prostitution sting allegedly involving minors. Placed on leave; awaiting hearings.

Joseph Rice: Placed on leave in June based on allegation he abused teen girl in 1979. Diocese lists as medical leave.

Bruno Ugliano*: Benedictine reinstated as Catholic chaplain of Rider University in Lawrence, N.J., in August after being cleared of abuse charges.

Robert Zasacki: Removed from ministry in May from St. Paul-Minneapolis diocese after allegation of abuse in Newark in 1970s.

Diocese of Orange

Andrew Christian Andersen: Sentenced to six years in prison in 1990 for breaking parole on a 1986 conviction on 26 counts of child molestation. Removed from ministry.

Richard T. Coughlin: Removed from ministry in 1993 after accusations of abusing five boys between 1970 and 1983. Denied allegations. Also named in lawsuit filed in September that alleges Boston archdiocese covered up abusive priests.

Jerome Henson*: Dominican priest placed on leave in 2001 after two lawsuits accused him of abuse in late 1970s and early 1980s in Northern California. Denied allegations.

Bertram Horvath*: Franciscan priest removed from ministry in 2001. Lawsuit filed this year alleges molestation of altar boy in 1972.

John Lenihan: Removed from ministry in 2001 and laicized in June after claims he molested two teen girls. Orange and Los Angeles dioceses settled one suit in April for $ 1.2 million.

Denis Lyons: Placed on leave in April; living in a retirement community. Allegations involve abuse of teens in late 1970s.

Thomas J. Naughton*: Placed on leave in June after allegation of molesting teen in 1978.

Gary Pacheco*: Franciscan priest alleged to have abused boys in late 1970s and early 1980s. Denied allegations. Removed from ministry in 1987; one civil suit settled in 1994.

Michael Pecharich: Removed from ministry in March, although diocese had known since 1996 of allegation he abused a boy in 1980s.

Gerald John Plesetz: Arrested in September on charges accusing him of molesting teenage girl in early 1970s. Laicized in 1978.

Eleuterio Ramos: Lawsuits settled in 1994 charged he molested two boys in 1970s and 1980s. Removed from ministry in 1980s, transferred to Mexico until mid-1990s. Now living in Whittier, Calif.

Siegfried Widera: Pleaded guilty in 1973 to abusing boy in Wisconsin; received probation. Removed from Orange ministry in 1985 after allegations of child abuse surfaced in Milwaukee. Now facing indecent behavior charges in Orange and Milwaukee.

Archdiocese of Philadelphia

Craig F. Brugger: Removed from ministry in March following allegation of abuse.

Richard J. Cochrane*: Augustinian priest working at school run by the order removed from ministry following criminal charges in 1999 alleging abuse of boy. Awaiting trial.

Thomas Kohler: Removed from ministry in 1994 following criminal charge he participated in taking pornographic photos of teen boy.

Nilo C. Martins: Convicted on sex charge in 1980s, paroled, deported. In Brazil.

Terrance Pinkowski: Subject of lawsuit, later dismissed, alleging abuse of teen boy between 1976 and 1981. Priest denied allegations, died in 1991.

Francis Rogers: Priest, in news reports, admitted abusing altar boy. Now retired.

Charles J. Siegele: Allegedly abused boy more than 30 years ago; archdiocese paid settlement to victim. Died in 1989.

Michael Swierzy: Pleaded guilty in 1998 to corrupting a minor; received probation. Removed from ministry in February.

Unknown: Diocese has suspended six more priests but will not reveal names.

Brian Brinker: Placed on leave in March after allegation he abused boy in 1996.

John R. Butler: Removed from ministry in April after allegation he abused boy in 1950s and 1960s.

Jerry Chasse: Laicized in 1980 following alleged abuse in 1970s.

Thomas DeVita: Removed from ministry in Michigan in June after abuse allegation in Long Island in 1970s. Appealing decision.

Angelo Ditta: Removed from ministry in March after allegation he abused boy in 1980s. Diocese received complaint in 1997.

Peter L. Duvelsdorf: Removed from ministry over allegations he abused two boys in 1978. Arrested for public masturbation in 1997. Retired.

Matthew Fitzgerald: Moved to Florida after allegation of abuse in 1980s on Long Island. Removed from ministry in Palm Beach in April after complaints of inappropriate behavior in 1992 and 1997.

Michael R. Hands: Removed from ministry in March; facing criminal charges of sodomizing teen.

Robert Huneke: Accused of abusing at least two boys in 1970s; laicized in 1989, died this year.

Andrew Millar: Laicized. Retired in 1999 after complaint of sex abuse of altar boy; later arrested on charge of sodomizing teen boy and sentenced to prison in 2000.

Salvatore Miraglia: Transferred from Long Island to Florida in 1982 after complaint alleged he asked teens to disrobe. Placed on leave in March in Palm Beach.

John Mott: Accused of sexually abusing several girls. Faced at least two civil suits, which were dismissed in 1998. Now deceased.

Charles Ribaudo: After allegation of inappropriately touching teen boy more than 20 years ago, he retired and was removed from ministry in March. Denies accusation.

Eugene Vollmer: Removed from ministry in March following allegations he abused three boys.

In Monday's report on priests accused of sexual abuse of minors in the USA's 10 largest dioceses, dates of removal from ministry for two priests were incorrect. Michael Swierzy of Philadelphia was removed from ministry in 1998. Robert Kealy of Chicago resigned his pastorate and was removed in March.
